House Passes Health Care Bill
From: EveryJoe
All eyes were on the House of Representatives on Sunday. And when all was said and done, President Obama’s health care bill passed in a 219-212 vote. All 178 Republicans voted against the bill, along with 34 Democrats. The bill had cleared the Senate back in December, and now goes to the President’s desk to be signed into law. The $940 billion plan is expected to extend insurance coverage to approximately 32 million Americans who are uninsured. For a look at what’s in the bill, including mandates and subsidies, check out the Health Care Bill Summary from CBSNews.com. Bill Clinton’s February Heart Health Month
It’s all over the media – February is Heart Health Month and President Bill Clinton has just helped prove the importance of knowing about heart issues and paying attention to the signs and symptoms our hearts may show. President Clinton, 63 years old, has a history of heart issues and had undergone quadruple bypass surgery in 2004. But, the vessels that were clear in that surgery seem to have gotten clogged because President Clinton was brought to a New York hospital yesterday complaining of chest pain. Bill Expands Healthcare Options for Self-employed
The Small Business Health Options Program, or SHOP Act (H.R. 6210), was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives this week. The bill, if passed, offers small businesses and self-employed professionals a ray of hope for obtaining affordable healthcare. For the nation's 14 million self-employed workers, the SHOP Act would provide several much-needed benefits. For example, the Act would allow both small businesses and the self-employed to participate in a nationwide and/or statewide pool for access to more plan options with lower health insurance prices. This pool would also provide protection against being denied benefits for pre-existing conditions or having to pay more for minor healthcare treatments. Self-employed workers will also receive a tax credit of $1,800 ($3,600 for family ...

Many New Prescriptions Aren’t Filled
Health care is the subject of much debate these days in the United States – insurance, access, cost, and more- but a big part of health care falls on the patients themselves. The U.S. can have the best system out there in terms of care and who has access, but if people don’t start taking care of themselves and following instructions once they’ve been diagnosed, then the best care in the world isn’t going to do much. Researchers in Massachusetts studied thousands of prescriptions over the course of a year and if they were filled. The results of their study was [...]Post from: EveryJoe Many New Prescriptions Aren’t Filled

The Health Insurance Bill and The US Music Industry - Your Thoughts
Like it or lump it, health insurance reform has arrived in the US. Reaction to the bill is, shall we say, unsurprisingly passionate on both sides. But forget all of the predictable partisan stuff (I swear, people roots for their political teams like this is a sporting event these days) - what does this all mean for the music industry in the US? The independent music industry is under-insured. The Future of Music Coalition does an absolutely fantastic job with helping musicians navigate insurance with their HINT program (check it out here, especially if you are a musician in need of health coverage). That's excellent for musicians, but remember of course that musicians are not the only ones in the music industry without health insurance. For all of the vitriol heaped on the big bad labels ...
